Night out at Alvernia
Had a bit of shock this evening when I found out my good friend was hospitalized due to bacteria infection in the brain. Rushed down to visit him after gobbling part of my packed dinner.
Fortunately he had gain consciousness and was able to joke well, though he later admitted that he was still feeling some pain. Apparently he had not completely recover from a flu virus which took refuge in his neck (which caused stiff neck). It was awaken by a new strain of virus that was probably air-born, and they collaborated to attack his brain, causing fever, headache and giddiness. If he had been admitted to hospital a few days later, he may have gone into coma and may even reject any anti-biotic that he is currently on drip for. Thank goodness he went in for treatment early.
It was definitely not a very good sight to see his hands full of needle holes. Moments after I came, the nurses came to insert another 5 cm long needle into his hand for intravenous purpose. I didn't feel good to hear how they extract his bone marrow for testing today, after 3 shots of local anaesthesia at his spine.
But it was quite heart-warming to see the sudden influx of his friends and family member right after I came, all whom express genuine concern about his condition.
When I heard from his doctor friend that his case could be more of a viral infection rather than a bacteria infection, there was some form of relief. But this is pending confirmation on the results of lab test that is due tomorrow.
This incident once again remind me that life is short and the human body is fragile. Anything could happen, regardless of age. Got to keep a conscious effort to be healthy.
